Tuesday December 2 - Velvadar to Sasangir

We walked around the premises before breakfast, it is going to hard to beat the tranquility of this place.

After breakfast we were ready to leave with our packed lunch by 9:30 and majority of the staff came out to wish us "Happy Journey"

The roads were smooth and not very congested, the scenery was pleasant to look it although nothing exciting, pretty much flat.

At around noon Jagadish pulled over to the side and proceeded with our tasty packed lunch of puri bhaji, unleavened bread with spicy potatoes,

Arrived at the town of Sasangir couple hours later, and drove straight to the Lion Safari Camp with was about a couple of miles off the main road through villages. This resort is one of the first and still very well maintained and run well. These are tented camps that are on permanent solid foundation, and are large and spacious with a huge bathroom complete with hot and cold running water. All the cabins were identical inside and outside and set up in two u shapes, ours was number 2.

The resort is located across the street from the Hiran river and offers beautiful view and variety of bird life from the resort

The people were very welcoming and as it turns out they were expecting us for lunch, we politely declined and had just coffee instead. The coffee tasted very good after the road trip.

There were no safaris into the Gir forest planned for the evening, instead we did a nature walk along the river with the resident guide/naturalist Bachhu Singh. Bachhu Singh was a wealth of knowledge and a bundle of energy, he took us over the dam to the far side of the river, where we walked for about an hour admiring a variety of birds.

We returned to our tents and rested with cups of coffee and pretty soon it was dinner time.

Dinner was served in the restaurant, a very short walk from our tent. The food was tasty and had a good variety, the restaurant staff friendly and helpful, all in all a pleasant dinning experience.

The plans are to be at entrance gate at sunrise, which was 15-20 mins away, so we retired soon after for the night.
