Thursday December 4 -Sasangir

Following the same routine, we entered at 7:00 AM, we pretty wandered around for awhile until Hanif heard the roar of a lion, he stopped the jeep and pretty soon there was line of tourist jeeps behind us.

The lion apparently had no intention of showing himself to us and sat down somewhere out of sight. A forest guard came upto Hanif on his scooter and wanted know if we wanted to see the lion, obviously his idea of a joke. Hanif must have said a few choice words in his language and the man told us to wait and sped off into where the lion was.

Pretty soon we heard him making noises to get the lion up and moving and it did so, reluctantly I presume. We moved out a little to get a better position and pretty soon His Majesty appeared walking in a calm and leisurely fashion. We followed him for a short distance as did the other jeeps and the forest guard.

It was a full grown young male lion and larger than the Africa lions I believe. It was a beautiful animal but it failed to convey the "look at me, and forget to breathe" feeling a tiger or a tigress does. In my limited experience, a tiger is something else, it is awe inspiring in it's magnificence.

It was time to go back shortly after.

We followed the same routine as yesterday and nothing memorable happened in the afternoon safari.

At least we did see the Asiatic lions, so it was a success from that perspective.
